Research Services

Genealogy SA offers research services in two broad areas:

Database Details:

The databases Genealogy SA has made available for website users to search are indexes or extracts taken from source documents held by Genealogy SA. If you have succeeded in identifying a {person / place / event / date} from your online searching of the databases, you may want to find out if there is any more information from the source document. You can do this quite easily by ordering a transcription or lookup online through the website using the reference you have identified.

Content on Births, Deaths and Marriages District Certificates (our source documents) changes over the years. Details of the information content can be accessed through the relevant "thumbnails"  on the "Find out more" page for the particular search subject.

General Research:

If you can't find in the databases a person/place/event/date, the Genealogy SA team of experienced researchers should still be able to help. Even in many cases with non South Australian information our experienced researchers can help.

Help and advice is there for clients who have problems in their research process. If you're not making any headway and you feel stuck, Genealogy SA researchers can usually help. Genealogy SA researchers can also assist distant researchers to obtain available South Australian source documents, like Wills or Land Titles documents, for example.

General research can be done either at an hourly rate or for a fixed fee. All general research is done on a cost-recovery fee-for-service basis at the hourly rate of $44 including GST. There is a standard minimum charge of one hour, and clients will be advised in advance should estimated costs exceed this minimum.

It is essential for a prompt and efficient research service (and accurate quotation if required) that the research client provides the maximum information available in the 'Research Request', including sources and citations where relevant.

You can start your Research Request online by filling out the information below. This does not commit you to use the Genealogy SA General Research service. We will acknowledge your request and advise you of the estimated cost before proceeding any further. Details of how to pay any fees will be included in our response. Don't forget to provide your own details in each box on the form so we can contact you promptly.

As research requests are processed on Monday and Friday you can expect a response within one week.
